Advice from a Friend
Flashback: So I’m 15 years old in high school and my great friend Robert “Opediah” Cannon and I are in study hall. He and I have a kind of game where once a day I approach him and say “Oh great Opediah, expound some words of wisdom onto me” and then he’d go into some story that had been really well thought out and somewhat deep.
Flashforward: I’m 19, still consider myself to be a christian at this time, working in a burger joint and who should get a job there as a manager but my friend Opediah. We catch up and I learn that he’s in school to be a baptist minister(if you’ve ever experienced the stereotypical black baptist minister, this will be even more shocking). Missing the “old days” I approach him and say the magical phrase.
He said, “Son, God and the Devil fight about everything under the sun. If God says the sky is blue the Devil will argue that it’s red. But there’s one thing that God and the Devil agree on….”
Wait for it…..
“Sex feels good”
I was changed forever.
